Sledding

Charlie's first trip down the big hill without his Dad.  I was a little nervous! He didn't seem to care one bit. My little guy is fearless.

Rev. Charlie Helsel?

This video was taken one evening while I was making Charlie's lunch for preschool the next day. I had a glass vase sitting on the island. Charlie noticed it, picked it up, and started to prepare the gifts as if he were a priest at a Catholic Mass.

This sort of thing does not surprise me anymore but does make me very proud. Charlie has always been very "spiritual". He asks us questions like "Who are the saints?", "Why did God make me?", "How do we get to Heaven?" Charlie is first a foremost a very inquisitive and rambunctious little boy but it would not surprise me if someday I get to show this video at his ordination.

My favorite part is when he sings "The mystery of faaaaaaaith!"

Pool Party

For Lilly's 1st birthday party we rented a room at the local Aquaplex. A large group of family and friends gathered around to share this amazing day with us. I find it hard to get my head around the fact that Charlie is 3 1/2 and now my newborn has just turned ONE! Lilly really enjoyed her day at the pool. She looked super cute while she  wore a new bathing suite delivered special from Fountain Hills and a pretty pink hat sent from Tucson.
She makes our whole family so happy with her chubby little legs and 4 tooth grin. Lilly, we could have never even dreamed up your sassy personality and your sweet little face. Good thing you have a fiercely loyal big brother. Your father and I will be sending him on many group dates in the future, you can bet your last dollar on it!

The only shot I got of Charlie and Wade. They never stopped moving!

Happy First Bday Lilly

One year ago today Lillian Elizabeth Helsel was born! I could never have foreseen all the joy, laughs, and growing pains from this past year. Forgive me for being slightly sentimental, but this is a BIG DEAL! I have survived and really, thrived in this past year of motherhood. Look who's Crawling

On Christmas Day Lilly started crawling. Since then, she has gotten good at pulling up and cruising the furniture! I am sure walking is just around the corner. My baby is almost 1!

Christmas 2012

This Christmas we were in Fountain Hills with my side of the family. We left the snowy mountains for the warmer Valley for 4 days. It was Lilly's first Christmas and the first one that Charlie truly understood. It was a real joy seeing Christmas though their eyes this year. It was also very special to be with all of my siblings. Becky - her husband, Liberty, and new cousin Henry. And Uncle Patrick who has been either at war or stationed away for the past 2 Christmases. We had a lot to be thankful for. Happy Birthday Baby Jesus!

We also got to visit Nana-the-Great, Uncle John, Aunt Susie, and a whole host of Phoenix relatives! It was a whole bunch of lovely craziness!
